Boxing back in San Diego

Don Chargin Promotions together with Bobby D. Presents and in association with Jorge Marron Productions and A&T GYM present “New Boys on the Block”, a six bout fight card scheduled for Thursday, August 30th, 2012, at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kearny Mesa, a suburb of “America’s Finest City” San Diego, CA. Soon to be California Hall of Fame Bobby DePhilippis will showcase hard hitting twenty-one year old undefeated light welterweight Jonathan Garcia (8-0, 6KOs) of Watsonville, CA, as he takes on his stiffest test in Tijuana tough guy Pedro “Embajador” Arcos (8-2, 6KOs) in the six round main event.

Garcia, a more than 130 amateur fight veteran, went pro in early 2010 and since then has collected a number of frequent flyer miles in amassing an undefeated ledger scoring wins in southern California, Arizona, Tijuana, Mexico and as far off as Columbus, Ohio. Known for a fan friendly compact and efficient fighting style, Garcia will be a tough out for Arcos, a brawling south of the border slugger who looks for the knock out early.

In the four round jr. welterweight semi-main event, San Diego fan favorite Emmanuel “Renegade” Robles (4-0-1, 2KOs) returns to the Four Points to take on Riverside, CA’s Roberto “Puerto Rican Prince” Crespo (4-2) in another battle of the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico war.

In his last bout Robles was given an unpopular draw versus fellow San Diegan Adrian Vargas in a local classic tussle that many saw Robles win. Robles boxing style seemed to give him the advantage over the hard charging Vargas but two of the three judges saw it even thus the draw. Now Robles will look to redeem himself in his fan’s eyes with a win over the “Puerto Rican Prince”. Crespo, an undefeated record executioner, has blemished the perfect ledgers of half of his previous opponents. He will look to do the same to Robles of Imperial Beach, CA.

Also featured on the fight card will be welterweight Oscar Godoy (7-2, 3KOs), also of Watsonville, CA. In his last fight in San Diego Godoy was stopped in the seventh round of a scheduled eight by El Centro, CA’s Joshua Marks in one of the best local fights in recent years. Since then Godoy has found his winning ways once again, stringing three wins in a row looking for a rematch with Marks later this year.

Godoy will be facing the always dangeround TBA.

In a special attraction, undefeated super featherweight Eduardo “Lobito” Rivera (7-0-1, 3KOs) will make his U.S. debut while light heavyweights Donald Anderson (1-0, 1KO) of Cincinatti, Ohio, and Stanley Harvey (1-2, 1KO) of San Diego face off for four rounds or less.

One more fight fleshes out the card.

The Four Points by Sheraton is located at 8110 Aero Dr., San Diego, CA, 92123. Doors open at 6:00pm with the first punch thrown at 7:30pm. All ages welcomed, food and drinks will be served. Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
