Boxing back in Tijuana

On Friday, Zanfer Promotions will break the dry spell in boxing that has fallen over Tijuana, MX, when it presents the first fight card of 2011. Zanfer will showcase its local up and coming talent at the Municipal Auditorium. In the main event of “Night of Warriors”, unbeaten lightweight Misael Castillo (19-0, 17KOs) will travel the roughly 100 miles north from his native Ensenada, MX, to protect his perfect record against Mexico City’s Francisco “Panterita” Dianzo (21-7, 18KOs) in a scheduled ten rounder. The hard hitting Castillo is no stranger to Tijuana since this is where he was crowned the winner of the regional “Guante Azteca (Aztec Glove)” tournament last summer. Known for his high pressure style, Castillo is one of the best prospects in Baja California. Dianzo in his own right is a tough opponent with face offs against the likes of former featherweight Cristobal “Lacandon” Cruz, Takahiro Ao and Guadalupe Rosales among others.

In the semi-main event, Tijuana’s Jorge “Pantera” Silva (14-1, 13KOs) will go against Guillermo Arroyo (12-1, 8KOs) in a battle of young light welterweight scheduled for eight rounds. Both fighters are looking to raise the level of their competition and what better way but to face each other. “Pantera” Silva is coming off a win versus Cesar Beltran a month ago while in his last fight, Arroyo disputed for the WBC Mundo Hispano lightweight strap but came up short against Moises Delgadillo via unanimous decision.

“Our policy has always been to promote talent and that has been key for Zanfer’s success,” Fernando Beltran, President of Zanfer, stated. “We have put together a great card in Tijuana to showcase our young talent with even fights so that Tijuana fans can get to know them.”

Amateur standout Maximino Flores (7-0, 6KOs) of Ensenada, MX, will face Tijuana’s Sergio “Elegante” Nuñez (3-4) in a junior flyweight six.

Two more bouts flesh out the fight card which will mark the first under the Tijuana Municipal Boxing Commission under auspices of the Director Juan Carlos Pelayo and the Boxing Commissioner, former two time world champion, Alejandro “Terra” Garcia.
