Boxing back in Wilkes-Barre, PA!

By Kurt Wolfheimer

KEA boxing is set to bring professional boxing back after a 35 year absence to the beautiful town of Wilkes-Barre, PA on April 11th at the beautiful Woodlands Inn and Resort. The card will feature the return of heavyweight prospect Jason Gavern (16-5-3, 8KO’s) in the six round main event. Gavern the former 2001 PA State super heavyweight champion, recently scored a unanimous decision over Butler PA’s Jim Emrick (7-3-1, 2KO’s) and will look to take that next step up as he moves toward national contention when he faces the always dangerous Bernard “Bad A–” Brown (6-5-2, 3KO’s) of Baltimore, Maryland.

The Inaugural card at The Woodlands will have a local and regional flavor that is sure to excite fans all over the tri-state region. Included on the card will be local fan favorite Anthony Cusumano (2-2-1) of Old Forge, PA. The exciting super featherweight avenged a loss to scrappy Markel Muhammad with a clear cut unanimous decision victory in his last bout. Cusumano will look continue his winning ways against Emanuelle Rosas (0-4). The hard luck fighter has tested several top prospects, including undefeated fighters, such as Joselito Collado (6-0, 2KO’s) and Lou Del Valle (5-0, 3KO’s). Rosas should provide quite a test for the Old Forge native.

Slick New Jersey welterweight Antonio “Tony the Tiger” Espinoza (9-0,1KO) will try to keep his undefeated record intact in a six round contest against upset minded Darrell Martin (4-7, 1KO).

Irish eyes will be smiling in a special women’s junior middleweight contest featuring the professional debut of Julie “The Irish Fury” Albanese.

Also slated for action is Philly lightweight prospect Clinton Douglass (2-2-2) against an opponent to be determined.

New York City light heavyweight Denys Lozada (5-2, 2KO’s) will be tested by tough Philadelphian Reshawn Scott (1-2). Another star studded bout will soon be added to the card that will surely satisfy any boxing fans tastes.

The Woodlands in Wilkes-Barre, PA offers a restaurant, four bars and a Hotel that is the ideal setting for fans looking to enjoy a great night at a reasonable price. This is world class boxing in an intimate setting that is hosted by the owners who are boxing enthusiasts. For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
