Boxing back on Long Island!

Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions will return to the Plattdeutsche Park Restaurant on Saturday, July 18, it was announced today by the promotional firm’s president Bob Duffy. The 11-bout fight card will be held outdoors and will seat up to 4,000 guests. Barbecued food and cigars will be available for purchase, and following the main event a live band will perform. Former NY State Welterweight Champion Mike Ruiz will headline the evening of boxing when he battles Manuel Guzman in a six round contest. This will be Duffy’s fifth fight card at Plattdeutsche. His last event, May 8, 2009, sold out Plattdeutsche’s indoor venue.

Tickets, priced at $50 (ringside) and $30, can be purchased by calling Plattduetsche Park Restaurant at 516-354-3131 or by visiting www.ringpromotions.com. Plattduetsche Park Restaurant is conveniently located at 1132 Hempstead Turnpike, just ½ mile east of Belmont Racetrack.

The first bout will begin at 4:00 pm.

“This will be an amazing summer afternoon for fight fans,” said Duffy. “NY’s best prospects, hot food, and music. What more could you ask for? People will get their money’s worth on July 18.”

Mike Ruiz (8-4, 5 KO’s), a Long Island rising star who had won his last eight bouts before losing a close majority decision to Daniel Sostre for the vacant NY State Welterweight Championship on January 23, 2009 (L 8). In his last bout on June 5, 2009, Ruiz surrendered a split decision to Chris Gray (L 6). Ruiz is eager for a rematch against Sostre.

Manuel Guzman (6-7, 2 KO’s) has won three of his last five bouts. The 26-year-old Lancaster, PA lost a unanimous decision to undefeated prospect James Stevenson in his last bout on May 29, 2009.

Popular Plainview, Long Island welterweight Tommy Rainone (12-3, 4 KO’s) will be featured in the six round July 18 co-feature bout against Luis Ruiz (3-1, 1 KO).

Rainone won his first 11 bouts as a professional. On Dec 5, 2008, he stopped Santos Galli (TKO 7) to earn a shot at the New York State welterweight crown. In his last bout on May 8, 2009, Rainone lost a close unanimous decision to defending champion Daniel Sostre (L 8).

Ruiz won his first three bouts as a pro. The 23-year-old Brooklyn, NY native was stopped in his last bout by Ken Dunham (TKOby 1).

Also, competing on the July 18 fight card will be the following prospects:

Chris Algeri (7-0, 4 KO’s) looks to extend his unbeaten record when he battles in a six round contest against an opponent yet to be determined. Algeri is a punishing puncher who breaks down his opponents. Three of his four knockouts have come within the first three rounds.

Tor Hamer (6-0, 5 KO’s) is a bruising heavyweight puncher from New York who has stopped five opponents within the first two rounds. In his last bout on May 30, 2009, Hamer crushed Samuel Brown in two rounds (TKO 2).

Steve Ormond (4-0, 1 KO) is a former Irish National Champion. The undefeated Dublin, Ireland lightweight defeated Sergi Ganjelashvili in his last bout on June 5, 2009 (W 6).

Issouf Kinda (3-0, 1 KO) is a former All-Africa Champion. The Burkina Faso native decisioned Aaron Anderson in his last bout on April 11, 2009 (W 4).

Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, a New York heavyweight, will make his pro debut.
