Heavyweight Shannon Miller has announced his retirement following a fourth round TKO loss to former world champion Hasim Rahman on Saturday in Niagara Falls, NY. The 36-year-old Miller, who resides in Troy, NY, ends with a record of 16 wins 5 losses and 9 KOs.
Former super flyweight contender Kahren Harutyunyan has been accepted to Southwestern Law School, which is a much respected law school in California. So the UCLA graduate boxer-turned promoter will now embark on another journey through law school. “I will however continue doing shows and collaborating with other promoters,” he told Fightnews.com. Harutyunyan is best known for a split decision loss to current world champion Nonito Donaire.
According to numerous reports the New York State Senate voted to approve a bill to allow mixed martial arts in the state. The state Assembly now has to approve the bill which Governor David Patterson already has counted on in his current budget. Previously (2007) the Assembly approved a bill to legalize but it stalled in the Senate. (Bob Caico)
