Superstar Manny Pacquiao is heading home for a hero’s welcome in the Philippines. He, wife Jinky, and Team Pacquiao will depart from Los Angeles on Wednesday. Pacquiao will return to the USA in June, first at the Boxing Writer Association of America awards dinner in New York City on Friday, June 12. Pacquiao will receive the 2008 ‘Fighter of the Year’ award and chief trainer Freddie Roach will be honored as the ‘Trainer of the Year.’ The next night Pacquiao will be at ringside to watch the Miguel Cotto vs. Joshua Clottey world welterweight title fight at Madison Square Garden.
Hard-punching middleweight Matt Korobov, 5-0 with five KOs, of Orokutan, Russia will be on the Cotto vs. Clottey fight card at Madison Square Garden on June 13. Korobov stopped Anthony Bartinelli on the Pacquiao vs Hatton card on Saturday night. Korobov is managed by Cameron Dunkin.
Former featherweight world champion Orlando Salido of Mexico will be in the main event on Top Rank’s fight card at the Star of the Desert Arena inside of Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino in Primm, Nevada on Saturday, May 16. Salido will box 10 rounds. USA Olympian Vanes Martirosyan, reunited with trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card gym in Hollywood, will be in a 10-round super welterweight bout. Tickets are $75, $50, $35, $20 and are available at the Star of the Desert Arena box office. The first bell will be 6 pm and the live telecast on Azteca America begins at 7:00 pm.
