Citing a shoulder injury, Sacramento middleweight prospect Brandon Gonzales (8-0, 7 KOs) has pulled out of a scheduled hometown boxing main event at the Red Lion Hotel, forcing a delay of the card from July 24 to August 7 plus a shuffle of bouts. Working with promoter Nasser Niavaroni, hotel owner Jeff Berger said Sacramento journeyman cruiserweight Michael Simms (20-11-1, 13 KOs) will fight in a new main event, an eight-rounder against former IBF cruiser champ Kelvin Davis of Reno (24-10-2, 17 KOs). The six-round semi-main matches Sacramento super-middleweight Christian Cruz (12-9-1, 10 KOs) with San Diego’s James Parison (11-0, 3 KOs), the intended opponent for Gonzales, a former topflight amateur known to be shopping for bigger purses.
