A cast of local prizefighters rather than musicians will take center stage tonight at the House of Blues in Downtown Houston. Staged by KRICH Promotions, the “Gunfight at the H.o.B” marks the first boxing event at the legendary concert venue. Power-punching cruiserweight Medzhid Bektemirov 3-0 (3 KOs), will fight his fourth bout since arriving from Russia six months ago.
Trained by 1984 Olympic gold medallist Frank Tate, Bektemirov, 22, hides behind a peekaboo guard and bobs and weaves into range before exploding with decapitating punches, a modus operandi uncannily reminiscent of Mike Tyson’s in his heydey.
Other boxers scheduled to fight are junior welterweight Lanardo Tyner, 23-3 (13 KOs), heavyweight Ahmad Abdin, 31-3-4 (16 KOs), welterweight Adrian Mora 20-1-1 (12 KOs), junior middleweight Jimmy Guzman, 4-0 (2 KOs) and heavyweight Laderrick Miller, 1-0 (1 KO).
