Boxing Returns to Seattle

By Sam DiTusa

Professional boxing has been absent in Seattle for quite some time, but new promoter Chris Jones has announced the formation of GUY Promotions to remedy that. The inaugural show is set for June 5th at the Renton Community Center in Renton, Washington — just 5 minutes south of Seattle. The card will feature Dashon Johnson (9-2-3, 4 KOs) and Skyler Thompson (11-7, 9 KOs) for the state super welterweight boxing title in the main event. Also appearing will be undefeated Seattle heavyweight Vincent Thompson, as well as middleweights Aubrey Morrow and Darren Azai.

GUY president Chris Jones has put together a promotional team consisting of Dennis Hallman and DiTusa Boxing Enterprises to assure a good product. “Our goal is to scout legitimate prospects, develop that talent at the local level, and bring large events to the Seattle/Tacoma area,“ stated Jones. “ We will do shows at both large and small venues, and are scheduled to start in area casinos in 2011.” Jones also intimated that the non casino shows will give a huge segment of the fans who are under 21 years old an opportunity to see live events.

Tickets for the June 5 show start at $35 and are on sale at numerous area outlets or by calling 206-909-2500.

See you at the fights.
