Boxing returns to Sky Ute Casino

Sky Ute Casino in association with Prize Fight Boxing announce “Rumble in the Rockies” featuring an 8-round junior middleweight main event between home town favorite Elco Garcia (26-8, 12 KOs) squaring off against heavy handed Russian Rahman Yusubov (9-9, 6 KOs).

Garcia is focused on 2013, “Being my biggest and most successful year in professional boxing and positioning myself for a shot at a world title. My dream has always been to bring a world title home here to Ignacio and it all starts at the Sky Ute Casino on January 19th. I have watched film on Yusubov and he is very aggressive and will come right at me. This is going to be a treat for all boxing fans of the Four Corners area. I look forward to putting on a crowd pleasing show.”

Yusubov is coming off the most impressive win of his career by knocking out former Two-Time World Champion James Page (25-4) in the second round last November. Yusubov stated , “I have resurrected my career and will not lose again. I now have a great team around me and am in the best shape of my life. What happened to Page will happen to Garcia and I look forward to doing it in front of all his fans.”

Undefeated Albuquerque fighters Angelo Leo (1-0) and Julio Gomez (1-0) will go toe to toe in a four round Junior Bantamweight clash. A six round showdown between all-action Super Middleweights, promises to have fight fans on their feet from the opening bell. This bout will feature undefeated prospect and 2012 Olympic Trials Semi-Finalist Tony Mack (2-0, 1ko) from Dallas, TX against seasoned veteran Joseph Hill (6-1, 2ko’s).

“Personally, I can’t wait to see this card; each fight is going to be an all-out war”, said Prize Fight’s Brian Young. “There is no better venue to host a fight of this magnitude than the world class Sky Ute Casino.” Complete details of the undercard will be released later this week.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
