Boxing Returns to Tampa Tonight

By Christopher P. Cook

Local middleweight favorite Quinton Willis (6-1-1, 3 KOs) takes on “Silky” Wilky Campfort (6-1-0, 4 KOs) in a match-up of Florida prospects. Willis is looking to reverse his fortune at the Tampa Westshore DoubleTree Hotel, as he is coming off two less than stellar performances. Willis’s last match ended in a majority decision win over a 2-8 fighter, and he lost the match prior to that. “Silky” Wilky has won five in a row, and looks to continue his winning ways over Willis.

On the undercard of the event, featherweight Carlos Rivera (16-7-2, 5 KOs) is looking to turn around his career against undefeated Sherali Dostiev (7-0-1, 2 KOs) from Boca Raton, Florida. Rivera, a Tampa boxing staple, has lost his last four bouts, including a match for the NABO and NABF belts last May. Undefeated heavyweight Luis Ortiz (5-0-0, 4 KOs) from Cuba, makes his Tampa debut against Ruben Rivera (3-5-0, 1 KO).

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
