Boxing South Africa disputes Mexican all-women card’s Guiness Book of Records claim

By Ron Jackson

In response to Fightnews.com’s report that Mayen Promotions in Mexico are going into the Guiness Book of Records as the first outfit to promote an all female boxing tournament, Boxing South Africa PR Officer Loyiso Mtya says female South African fight promoter Mbali Zantsi of Showtime Promotions has done it four times already, and they have records to prove it available on demand. According to Mtya, the fight cards took place August 10, 2007 in Durban, August 31, 2008 in Benoni, August 27, 2011 in Boksburg and August 28, 2012 in Brakpan.

“All the fights have been promoted by a female promoter, and all boxers, fight supers, referees, judges, ring announcers, inspectors, etc have been female,” said Mtya. “That record belongs to Showtime Promotions and South Africa!”
