BPA to rate boxing officials

The Boxing Promoters Association (BPA) has expressed “deep concern” over the officiating of the Ali Funeka-Joan Guzman fight this past Saturday in Canada and and intends to take steps to address these types of situations. The BPA plans to institute an evaluation and rating system of judges and referees in which all officials will be reviewed for competency and integrity. According to a BPA statement: “Officials that are found to be incompetent will be addressed. Should there ever be an instance of corruption, we will seek to have that official banned. In short, the credibility of our sport must be maintained and the BPA is establishing a Committee to start the process to monitor officials. Every sport occasionally has bad officiating and boxing will now have the BPA to monitor and try to correct any blatant instances.”

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
