Helsinki show will go on!

By Alexey Sukachev

Though the Chagaev-Valuev main event is definitely off, Helsinki boxing show will nevertheless go on in the reduced form. This was confirmed by Pekka Maki, the head of P3 Boxing, who is operating as the local promoter of the event. “We are extremely disappointed that this wonderful evening was badly spoilt by the heavyweight disorder. This is a big blow to world boxing and a major letdown for all pugilistic fans on the Earth but for the Finnish fans specifically. So much effort has been put in to compile this tournament in Helsinki. We are apologizing to our fans for this miserable situation. However, the P3 Boxing has done everything to save the card and now we can guarantee that six fights will be held this night at Hartwall Arena.

“The new main event is the Guiseppe Lauri vs. Juho Tolppola collision for the EBU-EE light welterweight title. Ladies will fight in the semi-main bout of the evening when Cecilia Braekhus will put her WBA/WBC belts at stake against Amy Yuratovac. Denis Shafikov fight is also a go. Finally, fans will be able to watch after local prospects Robert Helenius, Jarno Rosberg and Niko Jokinen in the undercard. The show will be shown broadcast live in Finland, Italy and Norway. Unfortunately, heavyweight fights of Lamon Brestwer and Kali Meehan and welterweight title bout between Frank Shabani and Leonard Bundu were cancelled. We did our best to let them go but our abilities are limited,” commented extremely disgusted Finnish promoter. “Our fight is definitely on and Denis is ready to deliver his A-game despite these shameful circumstances surrounding the infamous Valuev-Chagaev showdown,” confirmed Shafikov’s manager and co-promoter Oleg Bogdanov.
