At a press conference held in Auckland Park near Johannesburg today, promoter Branco Milenkovic announced that Butityi Konki has joined forces with Branco Sports Productions. It was also announced that the company had signed contracts with former WBU lightweight champion Phillip Ndou and the current IBO bantamweight champion Simphiwe Vetyeka, and that Branco Sports Productions will promote their future fights. Former IBF junior featherweight champion Welcome Ncita and Vuyani Bungu the former IBF junior featherweight and IBO featherweight champion were also in attendance. Ncita will train Vetyeka and Bungu will look after Ndou. Milenkovic advised that Ndou will be fighting in the junior welterweight division and his first fight under their banner will be in November and that Vetyeka who will now move up to junior featherweight will possibly have his first fight in December.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
