Former two time WBC light heavyweight challenger Paul Briggs (26-3, 8 KOs) is confident that he will defeat IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green (29-3, 26 KOs) when they clash over twelve rounds next Wednesday at the Challenge Stadium in Perth, Western Australia. Briggs is not impressed with Danny Greens recent win over legendary Roy Jones, Jr or former WBA super middleweight champion Manny Siacca.
Briggs said, “I don’t rate his performance against Roy Jones, Jr. Roy was there for the taking, he was finished. I don’t rate his performance against Manny Siaca. The guy’s been gone five years ago. And to be honest with you, Green finally grows some balls and calls me out three years after I’ve been retired. You can look at it for whatever it is but in my mind it’s a little bit of stupidity. You get a really deadly poisonous snake and step on its head even after it’s dead, it can still kill you. That’s the mindset I’m taking into this fight. If I can land one of my punches on his chin he’s going to sleep. That’s reality, and I’m a fan of reality.”
Briggs best fights of his career came against world heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek whom he extended in two WBC title bouts losing by razor thin majority decisions on both occasions also points wins over former WBA campions Stipe Drews and Jorge Castro.
There is speculation that if Briggs produces that same form he did against Adamek he can defeat Danny Green, who at 37 years is three years older than Briggs.
