Briggs ready to hit Atlanta

By Jose E. Santiago

On Sunday February 23rd, Route 30 Promotions is all set to continue in its much anticipated series “Sunday Night Fights” (SNF). This rendition of SNF is titled “Pain & Pleasure” as many knockouts and brutal fights are expected by the Route 30 Promotions team. Featured in the main event is Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs (54-6-1, 45 KOs) making his return to the ring after a three year hiatus following his twelve round decision loss to heavyweight champ Vitali Klitschko in 2010. He will be pitted against Cuban Rafael Pedro (21-10-1, 15 KOs). Pedro is looking to avenge a 1st round KO at the hands of Briggs which took place in April of 2010 for the WBC Latino heavyweight title.

In the co-main event, Atlanta’s Quataviouis “King” Cash (7-0, 4 KOs) looks to remain unbeaten as he takes on brawler Leo “The Lion” Laudat (8-13, 8 KOs) from the Caribbean island Dominca. The bout is expected to be a real test for the undefeated Cash as Laudat is known for his “knock me out or I’ll knock you out” attitude.

Also featured on the card is the once highly touted William Farley (3-0, 2 KOs) who hasn’t seen action since 2009. Farley will be squaring off against Mexican tough guy Jesus “La Sombra” Tavera (5-4. 1 KO). After a very busy 2012 in which he fought four times, Tavera only saw action once in 2013 and is looking for a busy year

Rounding out the card are:
Heavyweight Jelani Bitoy (1-0, 1 KO) vs debuting Lance Campbell
Undefeated Cruiserweight Devin Goins vs. debuting Derek Ntifo
Brad Austin (8-12 5 KOs) vs. Belgium’s Joel “Big Joe” Djeko (5-1-1, 2 KOs)
37 fight veteran Jonathan Felton vs. Evgenios Lazardis (2-0, 1 KO)
In a matchup of debuting fighters Bobby Gunn takes on Delvin Guist

Along with the aforementioned eight scheduled bouts, Route 30 Promotions will be bringing in special guests for Atlanta’s boxing enthusiasts to meet and greet. Expected in attendance are: Undefeated current WBO jr middlewight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Adrade, WBA International welterweight champ Luis Collazo, undefeated heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder, former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver, former champ Adrien Broner, and all-time great Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield.

SNF “Pain & Pleasure” will be at The Mansion Elan 3595 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, GA 30319

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
