Former 2-time heavyweight champion of the world Shannon Briggs (51-6-1, 45 KOs) threw out the opening pitch Sunday for the two-time world champion Miami Marlins. Briggs threw out the opening pitch back in 2007 when he was WBO Heavyweight champion at the old ballpark when the team was still the Florida Marlins. The brand new Miami Marlins stadium was just opened this current 2012 baseball season. The recently unretired Briggs signed autographs and took pictures with several, and spoke with the Marlins personnel as there is interest in hosting a boxing event at the new stadium. The Marlins won the game 5-2 over the Philadelphia Phillies.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
