By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

Former MMA star Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (11-0, 10 KOs) scored a third round knockout over Colin “Kid Coalminer” Wilson (35-29-1, 21 KOs) to capture the vacant Australian heavyweight title at the Southport RSL, Southport, Queensland, Australia on Friday. Browne connected with a solid right hand to the jaw of Wilson that staggered the former champion and another right hand power shot had him crashing to the canvas and referee Steve Marshall crowned Browne at 2:56. “I went into the ring with a back injury,” said Browne. “I could not put my shoes on Wednesday.”

In the main supporting bout, Daniel “The Doberman”Ammann (23-5-1, 5 KOs) captured the vacant Australian cruiserweight title when he outscored former amateur star Mostyn “The Boss” Neiman (6-1, 5 KOs) over ten rounds. Ammann controlled the bout in most of the rounds as he connected with accurate right jabs. Ammann was rocked by heavy blows in round seven but finished the round landing accurate combinations. Round nine had both boxers connecting with power head shots that had them on unsteady legs. Ammann had Nieman in trouble in the tenth and final round but he survived to hear the bell. Scores at the conclusion, Phil Austin 99-91, Cyril Cairns 97-93, Steve Marshall 97-93.
