Former world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos (30-1, 20 KOs) will be ringside for the August 4th super featherweight clash between Miguel Beltran Jr. (27-1, 17 KOs) and Ramon ‘Rocky’ Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs). With former WBO 130 pound champion Adrien Broner stripped of his title after failing to make weight for his TKO victory of Vincente Escobedo this past Saturday, the Burgos camp has their eye on obtaining that belt.
“It is a very good possibility that the winner of Martinez/Beltran could fight for the vacant title even against Burgos,” said WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel. Burgos was soundly beaten in a thriller in 2010 versus Japan’s Hozumi Hasegawa for the vacant WBC Featherweight title, but has rebounded to win five straight under the guidance of long time advisor Roberto Sandoval. Burgos scored an impressive third round stoppage of then 25-0 prospect Cesar Vazquez this past Friday on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights series.
