Burns off London fight card

WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns will now not be defending his title this Saturday at the Excel London. Burns, whose original challenger Liam Walsh had to withdraw because of car accident, will not be facing Ocampo due to contractual issues with TV. The Scotsman’s return has now been postponed to the end of January and further details will be announced shortly. Promoter Frank Warren said, “It’s a very disappointing time and I feel for Ricky who has put in a lot of hard work to prepare, first for Walsh and then Ocampo, and now he won’t be on the show this Saturday, but will be return in late January.” The show will still go ahead and Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves’ title defense against Glen Johnson now tops the night.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
