WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns and IBF lightweight champion Miguel “Titere” Vazquez commented on the postponement of their March 16 lightweight unification fight in London due to an aggressive stomach infection that forced Vazquez to stop training for a week.
Ricky Burns (via Twitter): “Absolutely gutted this fight is not happening, another training camp n it’s fell through! Not only that, feel sorry for the fans, my friends and family who have now booked tickets, flights and hotels for 2 fights for it to fall through. Sorry every1!”
Miguel Vazquez: “I’m very sorry about this situation. We were at the height of the preparation that was so intense my body was in a great physical condition, strong and fast. There were weeks of total dedication and preparation, but the infection I suffered in the stomach was very strong, I even laid down in bed for a week…but it was the best thing. My company told me that the fight will be rescheduled and in a few days more they’ll tell me the date.”
