Calderon-Garcia clash Oct 29

WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel confirmed today that former world champions Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (105 and 108 pounds) and Raul “Rayito” Garcia (105 pounds) will collide on October 29 in Puerto Rico as part of the WBO 24th Convention for the mini-flyweight interim title. Valcárcel was in Mexico last week and learned that Moises Fuentes, the WBO 105lb champion, hurt his nose in his win over Garcia last August 27, and “he can’t fight soon. Therefore, Calderon (34-2-1, 6 KOs) and Garcia (30-2-1, 18 KOs) will fight for the interim title headlining the card as part of the WBO Convention”.

Peter Rivera, PR Best Boxing Promotions vice-president, said that they are working on a venue for the show, but it seems it will be the Coliseo Mario “Quijote” Morales in Guaynabo.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
