WBO junior flyweight champion Iván “Iron Boy” Calderon (34-0-1, 6 KOs) weighed in at 116.5 pounds today in the first pre-weigh in for his unification bout against Mexican Giovanni Segura which will take place next August 28 at the Mario “Quijote” Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The night is being presented by PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) and will be televised on pay-per-view. Puerto Rico’s Professional Boxing Commission had the maximum limit of 124.2 pounds for the first pre-weigh in. “We are working hard for this bout, looking for a victory and another good performance. As always the weight is not a problem. I’m in good shape and focused for this fight,” said Calderon. Calderon was training for the press at the Wilfredo Gomez Arena Gym in his home town of Guaynabo.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
