Calderon vs Omar Soto?

By Rey Colón -The Sport Press

Omar “El Pastor” Soto (15-8-1, 6 KOs) could replace the injured Raul ‘Rayito’ Garcia as the opponent of former WBO champion Ivan Calderon (34-2-1, 6 KOs) on October 29 at the WBO Convention. “We were called to see if we wanted the fight after Calderón’s opponent was injured but it all depends on Félix ‘Tutico’ Zabala, who is the promoter of Omar. We’re ready to accept the match that has been mentioned for several years,” said Soto’s trainer Carlos Rey Velez.

The PR Best card suffered another blow when former WBO welterweight champion Carlos “El Indio” Quintana was injured in preparation for his bout against Jorge Melendez. Quintana will be out two or three weeks.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
