WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon of Puerto Rico plans to unify the 108lb division and he is eyeing to achieve the feat within the year. Calderon was the main guest of Monday morning’s Philippine radio show “Sports Chat” hosted by this writer. In the interview Calderon said he would seek a unification match with IBF champion Brian Viloria a few months from now. At the same time Calderon assures he is not looking past his upcoming Filipino foe Rodel Mayol, a two time world title challenger. Calderon will defend his crown this Saturday at the famed Madison Square Garden in a bout that will serve as an undercard for the 12-round welterweight title bout between Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey.
