Campbell: I’ll ruin Alexander!

By Flattop

Former unified lightweight champion Nate Campbell had this to say in response to the challenge presented by Devon Alexander: “Hey Flattop, this is one of the things that’s wrong with boxing today. This kid Alexander is getting bad advice from people that are supposed to be looking out for him, just so they can put a few dollars on their pockets. I have nothing against Devon, and no personal desire to wreck him. He’s a nice kid, who if given the chance to develop might turn into a pretty good little fighter. Myself, I’m looking for a more meaninful fight, but if this is what HBO wants, and there’s nothing more meaningful that I can get, then so be it. I’ll wreck this kid if thats how it has to be. I’d prefer a fight with a more established fighter such as Marquez, or one of the other top guys at 140, but if I can’t get those fights, then I’ll go ahead and ruin this kid if that’s what the powers that be want to see. The only stumbling block for me would be my ongoing issues with my legal split from King, and how the promotion would be handled, but I’m sure those issues can be overcome with neutral officials or something, depending on the site. But if they really want this kid ruined, then we can damn sure do it.”
