Carl Froch has been offered four big, lucrative fights by cable giant HBO. According to Gareth A. Davies of The Telegraph, Froch has been offered fights against Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward, which would be rematches (a third fight in the case of another rumble with Kessler) and with Gennady Golovkin and Julio Cesar Chavez Junior.
Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn, says “The Cobra” is also likely to face some rival British opposition in the form of James DeGale and George Groves, but that a rematch with the unbeaten Ward is on the cards for next spring in the U.K.
“We want to keep Carl on Sky Box Office in the U.K, and we have three names here in Europe we’d like him to fight,” the Matchroom boss said. “Kessler again, George Groves and James DeGale. But I think Groves and DeGale are bigger fights down the line. Home Box Office have come up with four names – Kessler, Ward, Golovkin and Chavez Junior. I think we will end up facing Ward next spring in an outdoor venue in the U.K. We want it over here.
“People say that he wouldn’t beat Ward because of their styles, but behind the scenes before that fight he was stale and mentally not right. He’s a different animal now.”
Hearn pointed to Froch’s great recent form, against Lucian Bute and Kessler, and said that is the fighter Ward can expect to face in the return meeting. Froch would almost certainly enter the ring as an underdog if and when he faces Ward again, but no-one can ever write off the Nottingham warrior. If just a couple of the fights HBO have in mind take place, Froch’s stardom will continue to rise. While if Froch can gain revenge over Ward, he will surely be a lock for The Hall of Fame.
