Things heated up in Mazatlan, Mexico, on Thursday afternoon in the final press conference before “Furia en Mazatlan (Fury in Mazatlan)” the multi-bout fight card presented by Box Latino in association with Promociones del Pueblo, Sampson Boxing and HG Boxing and headlined by the IBF junior flyweight championship fight between Filipino John Riel Casimero (16-2, 10KOs) and hometown favorite Pedro Guevara (18-0-1, 13KOs). The fight card will be held at the Mazatlan Convention Center and televised live in Mexico by Televisa.

Happy to be able to challenge for the world title in his hometown and in front of his family friends, Guevara mentioned that he was ready and in the best moment of his career and is confident that he will dethrone Casimero for the 108 lbs. title. “I am very proud to be home and fight in front of my people,” Guevara stated to the assembled local and national press in one of the Center’s meeting rooms.

Casimero also had his time at the podium and said that he came to Mexico to defend what his rightfully his. “I know that I will be facing an young and strong opponent,” Casimero stated respectfully of Guevara. “I know he is coming to win but I will not let him. I am here to defend what is mine, a title I won outside of my country and I will defend it again outside of my country.”

Also featured at the presser, WBF flyweight champion Irma “Guerita” Sanchez (23-5-1, 7KOs) and challenger Sharon Gaines (11-13-1, 3KO) confidently announced that their match up will be the fight of the night.

Gaines said she was thankful for the opportunity and her experience will be enough to secure the win and take home the title.

“My experience and ambition is great, on Saturday night I am going to steal the show,” Gaines stated.

Sanchez decided to only share some choice words since she mentioned that her fists will do her talking on Saturday night, “she (Gaines) can say what she wants since I will answer with my fists.”
