Juarez’s Javier “Zorro” Castro (21-2, 18 KOs) not only predicted a thrilling victory, when he stages his return to Juarez, Mexico Saturday night against former contender Edgar Barcenas (21-8-4, 15 KOs), of Mexico City, but that he will be targeting bigger names like Joel Casamayor and Michael Katsidis, after his win.
Tomorrow night’s card in Juarez, promoted by Promociones del Pueblo, will be the first big card in nearly two years in the bordertown now known for its violence (over 1,700 have already been murdered there this year.)
In one of three co-main events, Juarez’s Eduardo “Chucky” Lazcano (14-1, 7 KOs), coming off his sole loss, will take on Lizandro De Los Santos (8-2, 3 KOs), of Los Mochis, Mexico.
In an eight-rounder at superflyweight, Chihuahua near-contender Victor “Nene” Zaleta (10-1, 5 KOs) will battle Ricardo “Rocky” Armento (9-1-1, 4 KOs), of Sonora, Mex.
Former world champion Cesar “Cobrita” Soto (59-18-3, 40 KOs), always a crowd favorite in Juarez, and on a three-bout win streak, will give Angel “Acertijo” Reyna (9-2-1, 4 KOs), also of Juarez, an acid test in the third co-feature.
Mauro “Punos de Oro” Lucero (43-13-1, 29 KOs), of Juarez, is up against Ruben “Duke” Lopez.
Flyweight Alejandro “Apachito” Moreno (21-25-3, 10 KOs), of Juarez, hopes to halt an eight-bout losing streak in a bout against Victor “Dragon” Pasillas (0-0-1), of Chihuahua.
In the two curtain raisers, Ivette Mendez will take on Pilar Fierro; while Juan C. “Cuervo” Chavira takes on Arturo “Sombra” Murillo.
