World ranked junior welterweight contender Victor ‘Mermelada’ Cayo (26-1, 18 KOs) of the Dominican Republic, training out of the renowned World Crown Sports Training Center in Oxnard, CA, will step back into the ring on Friday April 29th against Lamont Peterson (24-1-1, 14 KOs) of Washington DC in an IBF junior welterweight title eliminator in the main event of an ESPN2’s ‘Friday Night Fights’ at the Cosmopolitan Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger to current IBF junior welterweight champion Zab ‘Super’ Judah (41-6, 28 KOs).
“I’m in great shape for this fight, we’ve been in training camp for several weeks now, we’re getting great sparring and we’re right on target. I plan on taking full advantage of this opportunity that we’ve worked so hard for and we’ll be 100% ready for April 29,” said Victor Cayo.
Victor Cayo currently trains along side WBC Silver super middleweight champion Noe ‘El Carbonero’ Gonzalez (26-1, 18 KOs) of Uruguay, hard hitting WBC Youth featherweight champion Javier ‘El Abejon’ Fortuna (14-0, 11 KOs) of the Dominican Republic, as well as middleweight champion Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KOs) of Oxnard, CA, by way of Argentina.
In his last outing, Victor Cayo defeated Javier ‘Pelon’ Gomez (10-6, 7KOs) of Mexico on October 29th at the Gimnasio Municipal in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico via first round knockout. Cayo is on a two bout win streak, both of them by knockout, since suffering his only loss last year to hard hitting junior welterweight Marcos ‘El Chino’ Maidana (29-2, 27 KOs) of Argentina.
Also, in action that night will be lightweight Hylon Williams Jr. (13-0, 3 KOs) of Las Vegas, Nevada as well as junior lightweight Rances Barthelemy (11-0, 9 KOs) of Cuba, in separate bouts.
