Cayo stops Reyes

WBA #3 jr welterweight Victor “Mermelada” Cayo (25-0, 16 KOs) easily destroyed previously unbeaten countrymen Julio Reyes (14-1, 8 KOs) in the third round at the Coliseo Carlos Teo Cruz in Santo Domingo on Monday night. Cayo who should be the highest rated 140lb contender in the next WBA rankings, has targeted WBA interim champion Marcos Maidana. “Maidana can run but he can’t hide,” said Cayo. “Hopefully the WBA will force him to fight me so I can bring the title home to the Dominican Republic where it belongs and where it will stay.” Co-Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing added “Amir Khan will not fight Maidana, and will give up his title making this fight between Maidana and Cayo mandatory. Every time he fights I am more and more amazed at how good he is. I really believe he is something special and when he is champion, he will remain Champion for a very long time.”

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
