Ceja-McDonell for vacant IBF bantamweight title?

By Gabriel F. Cordero

Mexican KO artist Julio “Pollito” Ceja (24-0, 22 KOs) could face Britain’s Jamie McDonell (20-2-1, 9 KOs) for IBF bantamweight world title vacated by Leo “Terremto” Santa Cruz. Ceja is rated #3 and McDonnell is rated #1. The #2 slot is vacant. “We are negotiating with representatives of McDonell,” said Oswaldo Kuchle, Director of Promociones del Pueblo. We can’t say anything yet. The fight could happen in the UK, but we’ll do everything to get it in Mexico. This is great news that we were expecting. We know that Ceja has the ability and the qualities to be world champion. We’ll give him all our support because we know that he’ll be the new champion.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
