Cermeno-Valdez presser

It’s a show like no other before in this town, and the fact that one of its own, Alejandro “Alex” Valdez will be fighting for a world championship has everyone excited as the card gets closer. Today during the final press conference at a restaurant in downtown Ciudad Obregon, Valdez assures his fans that he is more than ready for the challenge that he has Saturday night. “I have prepared myself the best that I can and will give it my all to win. I don’t expect to lose in front of my hometown fans. I’m well aware of the great champion that I will be facing Saturday, but by the same token I know that I have the ability to beat him,” said Valdez to a full room of media.

Valdez will challenge Nehomar Cermeno of Venezuela for the WBA Interim world bantamweight championship in the main event of the boxing card that will be telecast from two different countries by Top Rank pay-per-view.

“I have come to Mexico twice and left as a champion and I don’t think I’m going without my belt this time either. I know he will have a lot of support on Saturday night, but inside the ring its just he and I, and I don’t expect to lose,” said Cermeno.

In the other televised fight from Ciudad Obregon, WBC super featherweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto will take on Jesus “Matador” Chavez in a 10 round lightweight bout.

“It’s a very big fight for me because it will be against an experienced former champion who will right at me and I have to ready to match him punch for punch. It’s a new division for me, but I will prove that I’m ready to face the best in the world at 135 pounds,” said Soto ,who will be looking for his fourth win of 2009 on Saturday night.

The off TV card is loaded as former world champion Jose Luis Castillo, top Mexican prospect Hernan “Tyson” Marquez and the son of the legend Omar Chavez will all be in action in what is expected to be a sell-out Saturday night in the six thousand arena in Ciudad Obregon.

All the fighter have being promoting the card around the city. They have visited local TV and Radio Stations as well as making personal appearances in malls and schools where they have being received very well by the fans.
