The WBA is planning call a private meeting on Saturday to further discuss the next steps in the ongoing Chagaev-Valuev saga:
“First of all we would like to apologize to all worldwide boxing community for the negative impact on the cancellation of the Heavyweight championship match scheduled for tomorrow Saturday 30th, 2009 in Helsinki, Finland. Unfortunately we have not been officially informed the reported medical unfitness of WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev by the Finish Boxing Federation or the promoter responsible of the event. Despite the presence of WBA representatives at the meeting we are still awaiting for material in writing on the matter. No comments could be made without the knowledge of the facts on the cancellation.
“For the above reason we have decided to call a meeting with all parties involved in this event tomorrow Saturday, May 30th, 2009. It includes Finland Boxing Federation, Austria Boxing Federation, Germany Boxing Federation representatives, Ruslan Chagaev team, Nicolay Valuev team, Sauerland Events, Universum Box-Promotions, and Don King Productions in order to discuss all events occurred on this cancellation.
“It is important to clarify that no decision will be made tomorrow it would be a regular procedure of compiling information required to vote and decide on the championship status of Ruslan Chagaev and Nicolay Valuev. The meeting will be held in Finland Radison SAS Hotel at 11 am in a room to be confirmed. WBA directorate members to be present are: Gilberto Jesus Mendoza (WBA Executive Vice President), José Oliver Gómez (WBA Ratings chairman) and George Martinez (NABA President/WBA Ratings vice chairman).”
