“Naturally, there are big differences to amateur boxing,” observed Chakhkiev. Here in Hamburg at the Universum Gym, it’s a lot of fun training with my boxing colleagues and to prepare under these professional conditions. So, of course, I’m highly motivated. I’m excited and hugely happy about my pro debut. Together with Universum and Michael Timm, I have big goals!”
With this Olympic gold medal, Chakhkiev concluded his long run of amateur success which included the junior European championship in 2001, the military world championship in 2006 and the vice world amateur championship in 2007. He hold amateur wins over the likes of Roman Romantschuk (RUS), Yoan Pablo Hernandez (CUB), Alexander Powernow (GER), Osmai Acosta Duarte (CUB) and Clemente Russo (ITA).
