Unbeaten cruiserweight contender Rakhim “The Machine” Chakhkiev (12-0, 9 KOs) underwent successful surgery today in Hamburg, Germany, to remove three bone fragments in his left elbow. Chakhkiev, who last Saturday defeated Alexander Kotlobay to win the WBC Baltic belt, was already experiencing pain in the elbow before the fight but wanted to go through with it. “I’m doing very well. Tomorrow I’ll leave the hospital and then begin training as soon as possible,” promised the 2008 Olympic Gold medal winner.
