Chauke wins on a third round stoppage

By Ron Jackson

Former Commonwealth and Olympic games representative Jackson Chauke was in outstanding form when he stopped Charity Mukondile in the third round of a flyweight bout at a box and dine tournament held at Gold Reef City near Johannesburg on Thursday night. The 28-year-old Chauke who won a silver medal at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth games and also took part in the 2008 Beijing Olympics took control early in the fight as he dominated with his better boxing skills before dropping Mukondile with a left hook to the jaw in the third round. The plucky Mukondile managed to beat the count but after taking a series of lefts and rights his trainer threw in the towel at 1 minute 31 seconds into the round. Chauke improves his record to 11-1; 7 and Mukondile’s reported record drops to 9-8; 2.

In a middleweight bout scheduled for six rounds Walter Dlamini won on a third round technical knockout over Charles Musafiri. Time 2:35.

Maxwell Amponsah a former Ghana Olympian stopped late substitute Daniel Mpinga at 2 minutes into the first round in a light heavyweight clash.

Cruiserweight Deon Coetzee outboxed Khayeni Hlongwane before winning on a fifth round knockout. Time 48 seconds.
