Chavez-Duddy for WBC silver

Promoter Bob Arum announced today that the Julio Cesar Chavez vs John Duddy clash will be for the WBC silver title, putting the winner in line for a shot at WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Both fighters said they are looking forward to Saturday night’s fight, which will be a twelve-rounder. “This is the most important I’m going to have to get to where I want to be,” stated Chavez. Duddy agreed, commenting “This is the biggest fight of my career.”
Ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera said he’ll be ready to challenge for a world title following his fight against Adilton De Jesus on Saturday’s pay-per-view telecast. Arum mentioned WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto or WBA lightweight Miguel Acosta as possibilities. Barrera is hoping to become the first Mexican to win a world title in four weight divisions.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
