Chavez Jr: I don’t think he needs a rematch, I think I beat this guy very clearly

Former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. believes he was the clear victor over Bryan Vera on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. “I won six or seven rounds,” said the ‘Son of the Legend.’ “Bryan Vera had maybe three rounds with more activity than me but I think he never really won one round clearly, you know? I connected on the best punches every time. I was always in control of the fight. In the tenth round I hurt him with a liver punch and he was ready to go. I almost knocked him out. I really believe I didn’t knock him out because I broke my hand in the fourth round.”

On a rematch: “I don’t think he needs a rematch. I think I beat this guy very clearly, landed the power punches, the best punches. You [reporters] see the opposite side. If I was Bryan Vera and he had my name what would have happened? If Vera hurt me, opposite of the way I hurt Vera, a lot of people would give the fight to Vera.”

On what happens next: “I can fight in December maybe. I don’t know my next opponent, but I’m ready for whatever happens.”

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
