Undefeated prospect Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. trained Wednesday in Tijuana as he gets ready for his upcoming fight on Saturday Night against Luciano Cuello of Argentina in the main event of “Tijuana Thunder” a championship card presented by Top Rank on pay-per-view in the United States. “It feels good to be here in Tijuana. This City has been very good to our family and I’m really looking forward to the fight on Saturday”, said Chavez Jr. after working out in a local gym for about ninety minutes. Chavez Jr is looking forward to having a big night as he looks to bigger and better things in 2009. “This fight will be key to my career as I must demonstrate to everyone that I’m ready for bigger challenges ahead”, said Chavez Jr.

The big card will also include two championship fights. In one Humberto Soto will defend his WBC Super Featherweight crown against Antonio Davis of Atlanta, Georgia, and Fernando Montiel will seek the WBO bantamweight crown against Diego Silva of Argentina, and a 10 round bout Mexican prospect Javier Castro will take on the always tough Antonio Diaz of Coachella, California.

“Its a very important card and one of the biggest in Mexican history. This is one that everyone should enjoy here in Tijuana”, said Bob Arum, who landed today in Tijuana.

The big card will take place in the Plaza de Toros Monumental next to the beach in Tijuana with a capacity for 25,000 fans.

TIJUANA A BOXING MECCA

All the main fighters have arrived in Tijuana as they get ready for the final press conference here on Thursday at noon.

“This is a great opportunity for all us. All this fights could very well be their own main event in other card that why I feel that this could be a great opportunity for all of us to show our talents”, said Fernando Montiel a two-time world champion.

Silva is ready for Montiel and his first fight in the United States. “I have a lot of respect for Montiel but I know that I have the skills to defeat him. This is the kind of fight I always dreamt about. What could be better, a championship fight against a great champion in place that will be rocking”, said Silva.

The weight-in is schedule for noon on Friday night across from the Tijuana City Hall.
