Chavez Jr. may not attend NSAC Meeting

By Gabriel F. Cordero

A source revealed to that former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr may not attend the Nevada State Athletic Commission hearing scheduled for Thursday, at which sanctions are expected to be made after Junior tested positive for marijuana after his September 2012 fight against Sergio Martinez in Las Vegas. According to the source, Chavez Jr can’t travel because he has no American Visa and instead must “attend” the hearing by telephone to have the opportunity to answer the charges. Top Rank President Todd duBoef and Zanfer Promotions President Fernando Beltran are expected to be present at the hearing.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
