Chavez Jr WBC title shot?

The World Boxing Council is announcing that in its next ratings it will grant #1 rated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. the status of official challenger of WBC middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez. The bout will take place after the next voluntary defense of Martinez, a fight that has already been scheduled. The aforementioned facts will be confirmed in Cancun, Quintana Roo, within the works of the 48th WBC Annual World Convention that will be held from October 31st to November 6th, 2010. How this will affect Chavez’ proposed December 4 fight with WBO 154lb champion Miguel Cotto is unknown.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
