Chaves, Lazarte win in Argentina

Hot Argentinian prospect Diego Chaves (13-0, 12 KOs) won the WBO Latino welteweight title by way of 4th round TKO over Brazilian Daniel Saboia (8-2-1, 3 KOs). Saboia received a standing 8 count by the referee in round 4 after been staggered by a series of punches by Chaves. Moments later Chaves finished off Saboia with a vicious volume of head shots that had the referee wave off the bout in the same round.

Five-time world title challenger Luis Alberto Lazarte (46-9-1, 18 KOs) pounded out a unanimous decision over countryman Raul Eliseo Medina (25-10-3, 10 KOs) by the scores of 100 90, 100 91 100 90, and 99 93 to win the WBC Mundo Hispano flyweight title. The event took place at the Club Once Unidos, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The show was promoted by Mario Margossian.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
