Chavez-Paez Jr. II moved to Tijuana

By Gabriel F. Cordero

The July 21 welterweight rematch between Omar “Businessman” Chavez (28-1-1, 21 KOs) and Jorge “Maromerito” Paez (31-4-1, 19 KOs) has been to the Municipal Auditorium in Tijuana, BCN, Mexico. Originally the fight was to be held in Monterrey, but Zanfer Promotions decided that the fight was a better fit in Tijuana. “This is a natural rematch,” said promoter Fernando Beltran. “Both fighters want it, it’s demanded by the public and television, and it’s best in Tijuana where both names are very loved and respected and I think we’ll have a full house at the Auditorium.” In the co-feature, WBA interim super featherweight titleholder Bryan “Tiquito” Vazquez (28-0, 14 KOs) will defend against perennial contender Jorge Lacierva (41-8, 27 KOs).

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
