Chavez, Rojas victorious in Culiacan, Mexico

Super welterweight Omar “Businesman” Chavez (32-2, 22 KOs), son of Mexican ring legend Julio Cesar Chavez, won a hard fought ten round unanimous decision over Daniel “Galeno” Sandoval (35-3, 30 KOs) in front of 5,000+ fans at the Palenque de Gallos de la Feria in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Scores were 96-93, 96-92 and 95-93 for Chavez, who claimed the WBO international belt.

Former world champion Tomas “Gusano” Rojas (43-14, 29 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over Jose Cabrera (23-4-2, 10 KOs). Rojas dropped Cabrera in round three and got a referee’s stoppage in the eighth after landing a series of unanswered punches.
