Undefeated WBC middleweight champion and the Son of the Legend Julio César Chávez, Jr. (44-0-1, 31 KOs), pound-for-pound superstar and three-division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire (27-1, 18 KOs), #1 middleweight contender Marco Antonio Rubio (53-5-1, 47 KOs), former junior featherweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (21-1-1, 18 KOs) and Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum spoke today at the final news conference for Saturday’s fights at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.: This fight will leave no doubts that I am the top middleweight in the world.
Marco Antonio Rubio: “I want to thank and give respect to Julio Cesar Chavez. I’m gonna give all my heart in the ring.”
Nonito Donaire: “What I’ve heard so far is music to my ears. What they’ve said has really fired me up.”
Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. “I’m happy to here. I’m well-prepared. And you’re gonna have a new champion on Saturday.”
Bob Arum: San Antonio is a great boxing town with great fans and on Saturday night they will see a tremendous card of boxing. Not only the two fights that are being televised, the super bantamweight championsip and the middleweight championship, but from top to bottom a great, great night of boxing. I want to thank HBO for getting behind this card, of putting really two main events together and offering it on one night…. the Alamodome is storied in the history of boxing. The great fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. and Pernell Whitaker was held here, Manny Pacquiao fought here a number of years later. This is a great place to hold a fight.
