Welterweight Omar Chavez (28-1, 20 KOs) won by TKO when Colombian Emilio Julio (20-8-2, 13 KOs) didn’t come out for round nine on Saturday night at the Palenque de Gallos in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Chavez was returning to the ring for the first time after his first career loss last December against compatriot Jorge “Maromerito” Paez Jr. “I felt very good,” said Chavez. “A little rough in taking care of my opponent, but all went well. We’re back on the road to success and the people of Culiacan were satisfied with my performance and that motivates me and makes me more eager.”
WBA light flyweight world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (26-0, 16 KOs) won by first round KO over Manuel “Menny” Jiménez (11-3-1, 7 KOs) in a non-title fight. Jimenez simply took a knee and was counted out by referee Alvaro Garcia at 2:58. The Culiacan Boxing Commission and Zanfer Promotions retained the purse of Jimenez.
