Artie Pelullo, promoter of WBO #1 ranked middleweight Bryan Vera, said today that discussions are already underway for a December rematch between Vera and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. “We’re talking to Bob (Arum),” said Pelullo. “We’re talking to HBO about a December date. And should HBO not be in a financial position to pay for this event, Bob and I are discussing a pay-per-view event for December.” Pelullo also stated that if the bout takes place, it would be in Vera’s home state of Texas, and he would get more involved in the selection of officials.
“Bob did talk to Junior,” added Pelullo, “he said he was interested in a rematch and I think he needs to do it because his own fan base is giving him a hard time. There are many reports down in Mexico that they’re disappointed with him, he didn’t win the fight, he got a gift, and that world down there it’s very important to be macho, to be stand-up, so I actually think the rematch has a very good chance to come forward. There’s no fights for him right now between now and the end of the year or January or February as other guys are tied up so this would also help us get the rematch.”
