Chavez wins; Maestrito loses

Unbeaten “Son of the Legend” Omar Chavez (22-0-1, 15 KOs) defeated Rodrigo Juarez (15-12-1, 11 KOs) by round split decision in an eight round welterweight bout on Saturday night at the Centro de Espectaculos in León, Guanajuato, México. Scores were 78-77, 79-77 for Chavez, 78-77 for Juarez. The local fans were upset by the the decision and threw beer into the ring.

In the co-feature, former welterweight world champion José Luis “Maestrito” López (50-5-2, 28 KOs) stayed on his stool at the beginning of round six and lost by TKO to Francisco “Panchito” Sierra (21-3, 19 KOs) in a super middleweight bout.

Bantamweight José Carlos Vargas (7-2-1, 5 KOs) and Jonathan Lecona (2-2-1) battled to a six round draw.
